What information we collect from you
Information you tell us. We receive and store any information that you enter on our website or give us in any other way. This includes information that can identify you (“personal information”), including your name, telephone number, postal and email addresses, and billing information (such as credit card number, cardholder name, and expiration date).
Information other people tell us about you. From time to time we may obtain information about you from our partners and third-party sources. For instance, if you choose to follow us on social media, we may receive personal information that you share with us on your social media account.
Information that we actively research about you. We might fill in some blanks in your profile. For instance we might do a quick Google search to find out which region you are based in, or check your public LinkedIn profile to see industry you work in. We might note down whether you’re a person who attends ISOC training, or a person who books training on behalf of other people. We use this information to personalise our customer service to you and offer you training that is as relevant and useful to you as possible.
Automatic information. We collect some data automatically when you visit isoc.com, such as your IP address, browser software, and referring site. We aggregate this data with everyone else who visits our site to learn more about our customer base, and how they like to use the site. As another example, if you use our live chat function, you will be referred to an agent closest to your region and time zone.
How we use your information
We use sensitive billing information (such as credit card numbers) to complete your bookings. We don’t process or store any credit card information on our systems – that is handled by a secure third-party service (Stripe).
We use information about your preferences (for instance courses that you have attended in the past, or topics that you have told us interest you) to suggest courses that you are most likely to find useful and relevant.
We use other information about you for the following general purposes: to provide you with the services that you request; to send you booking confirmations and joining instructions; to administer logistics for your training course; to prepare your pack of training course materials; to communicate with you in general; to respond to your questions and comments; to measure interest in our services and website; to notify you about special offers and upcoming courses that may interest you; to customise your experience with our website; to ask you to take part in surveys; to resolve disputes; to collect fees; and otherwise as described to you wherever you interact with us.
Email: we want to make it easy for you to find out about ISOC training courses that you would like to attend, particularly when we have special offers that we think would interest you. For example, if you sent us an enquiry about a certain training course in the past but couldn’t attend that date, and we have a special offer on the same course next month, we may send you an email to let you know.
Newsletters: We publish two regular e-newsletters: Communication Quarterly, which contains original thought leadership articles written by ISOC faculty and practical resources drawn from ISOC courses; and Upcoming Courses, which profiles a selection of courses running in your nearest ISOC training centre each month, including special offers. You will not receive more than one newsletter per month, and usually fewer.
You will always have the opportunity to choose not to receive these emails in any email that we send.
