    This course covers the essential skills that enable top communicators to chair important meetings and moderate high-profile events such as panel discussions, debates, committees and public meetings.

    You will master the role of facilitator and learn to manage group dynamics, conflict, behaviour and participation.

    This course is recommended for all professionals whose role includes managing discussions, including both regular business meetings and formal formats such as panels and Q&As.

    What to expect

    This course is a highly practical, vocational, “how-to” programme based around real-world tools, checklists and processes that will be immediately useful to you back in your day job.

    You will not have to sit through long lectures or presentations – this course uses active learning to help you internalise the topic and apply it in the real world.

    Training format

    This course comprises two modules each covering a set of key concepts and skills.

    Within each module, best practice and key concepts are covered off in a concise briefing, followed by stimulating learning activities like workshops, discussions, case studies and role-play exercises.

    Managing and chairing meetings

    This module covers how to chair important meetings such as board meetings.

    • Structuring proceedings for effective outcomes
    • Setting and managing the agenda (including timekeeping)
    • Managing group dynamics
    • Handling conflict
    • Controlling difficult individuals

    Moderating and facilitating

    This module covers how to excel in the role of facilitator, for instance at public meetings and in panel discussions.

    • Preventing digression and maintaining focus on key topics
    • Encouraging participation
    • Ensuring clarity and understanding
    • Managing participant behaviour

    Course format


    This course is heavy on reality and light on theory. Your trainer will introduce the concepts clearly, then focus on real-world skills that connect the big picture to your job. Courses are updated regularly and trainers are active in the industry so your knowledge will be fresh and relevant.
