A one-day advanced course on managing meetings and moderating panel discussions

This course covers the essential skills that enable top communicators to chair important meetings and moderate high-profile events such as panel discussions, debates, committees and public meetings. You will master the role of facilitator and learn to manage group dynamics, conflict, behaviour and participation.

Course content

1) Managing and chairing meetings

This module covers how to chair important meetings such as board meetings

  • Structuring proceedings for effective outcomes
  • Setting and managing the agenda (including timekeeping)
  • Managing group dynamics
  • Handling conflict
  • Controlling difficult individuals

2) Moderating and facilitating

This module covers how to excel in the role of facilitator, for instance at public meetings and in panel discussions.

  • Maintaining pace, energy and interest
  • Preventing digression and maintaining focus on key topics
  • Encouraging participation
  • Ensuring clarity and understanding
  • Managing participant behaviour

Course format

This course comprises two modules each covering a set of key concepts and skills. Within each module, best practice and key concepts are covered off in a concise briefing, followed by a range of stimulating learning activities like team workshops, group discussions, topical case studies and role-play exercises.
